Last night I had the worst time trying to get to sleep. I don’t know if was the heat, the humidity, the fact I had the house locked up for more than half the day with the air conditioner on to keep us cool. Maybe I had been eating something that was not agreeing with my food intolerances, maybe some plant was flowering around the neighbourhood that was getting up up in my stuff… I honestly never know! I suffer from these bouts of hay fever, sneezing and congestion randomly, without reason and I have for the last 16 years. Lucky me! (insert very sarcastic tone there).
So this morning I woke up feeling like a bag of shit basically. Very little sleep and what sleep I did get was severely impaired by my lack of of ability to breath properly. I should be used to this but it never gets any easier. And of course, compound that with having a teething baby (whom I co-sleep with)… I naturally have seen better days!
I did manage to get a nice 2 hour nap with the bubba this morning though which was a massive bonus in today proceedings!
But anyhow, upon waking from my nap I decided that I had better get some extra goodness into my weakened body, so besides my regular whole food shake I also made my “Little Sinus Remedy”. And it goes a little something like this…
What you will need:
100ml of Apple Cider Vinegar
Juice of half a Lemon
1 teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon
1 teaspoon of Ground Tumeric (or as I have done – 2 turmeric capsules)
1 teaspoon of Manuka Honey
Once you have mixed all these ingredients, simply pour in some boiling water.
Now all you have to do is sip this through out the day or for the next hour or so until finished.
Tumeric is fantastic for chronic inflammation, as is cinnamon. Cinnamon also has bacteria fighting abilities. Allergic reactions and other forms of stress also tend to produce excessive acids in the body, and the alkaline-forming ability of apple cider vinegar can correct excess acidity in our system and help prevent and fight infection. Manuka honey has an antibacterial component that sets it apart from other honeys. This activity is stable and doesn’t lose its potency when exposed to dilution, heat or light. Manuka honey has been found to be effective against a range of bacteria including Helicobacter pylori (which causes most stomach ulcers); Escherichia coli (the most common cause of infected wounds) and Streptococcus pyogenes (which causes sore throats). It is also antimicrobial and antiviral. It is also an antioxidant that can help to increase vitality and immunity. Lemon juice can help with congestion, and help with thick nasal mucus.
It does make you feel a little bit “woah this is too much” in the tummy if you down it all in one serve. It’s a little more gentle if you sip it.
Alternatively, you can add or alter this little remedy and introduce garlic, onion, cloves, cayenne, ginger and heaps of other powerful anti-inflammatory natural ingredients!
Hope you don’t have to use this one… but if you do, lets hoping it helps you too. xxo
