Pneumonia is really lousy!
Just under two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Pneumonia. I honestly didn’t think it was that bad. I didn’t think I was that sick. My cough had been getting progressively worse but I wasn’t really feeling shithouse. I kind of decided to take action when my husband actually mentioned that I should go to the doctor and have it checked out. This, as most of you women out there will surely know, is a rare occurrence that your husband or boyfriend will even realise you might be unwell, let alone have a gurgling phlegmy cough. So I figured I must be sounding pretty fuckin ill to warrant that comment from the hubby!
So I went to the doctor and sure enough I have a mild case of pneumonia, which is way better than a bad case but still not what I thought! I’d had chest infections that had been more painful. So anyway, she prescribed me a mountain of drugs. Hardcore antibiotics, a heavy dose of Prednisolone and also upped my asthma medication by an extra 4 times per day!
That was over a week ago and I am feeling remarkably better… but i do still feel like arse. Its the tiredness that gets me. I am so blah. The cough is still nasty too and that is making my body ache and my chest muscles all sore at the end of the day!
But this post is more about how to stop the pharmaceuticals from fucking up all the goodness in your body! I was not going to be all “I can beat this without the intervention of drugs”. Because I listened to what my body was saying and it was screaming out that I could not do that with natural healing alone. I would have loved to but you have to be realistic. I am a mum of a co-sleeping, breastfeeding toddler who is teething and wakes up all through the night. I am run down and sleep deprived and I was not going to fight a serious infection with some extra vitamin c or my (amazing as they are) doTERRA Oils. I needed the big guns. Plus all the rest!
So the last two weeks since being on these drugs (I finish all of them today! whoohoo). I have been taking a myriad of other healthy, immune supporting and holistic remedies.
The list is as follows (so if you also are fighting any nasties, with or with our the pharmaceutical intervention – take note of what you can do to help!):
A Brilliant Probiotic with a Broad Spectrum of species. I personally take Healthy Essentials Broad Spectrum Probiotic 10. It has 35 Billion Organisms. This will help heal your gut health and help in assisting the good bacteria that any antibiotics you might be taking will be affecting. Even if you are not on an antibiotic, when you are sick it is paramount to try and have optimal gut health. Yeast infections thrive when you take antibiotics. We want to keep them away!!!!
Heaps of plain water. Just water. Not what you include in your teas or coffees. Just water! Lots of it.
Apple Cider Vinegar. I love Braggs. But anything with “The MOTHER” in it will be just as good.
Raw Honey. This is full of pure healing natural vitamins, living enzymes and other nutritional elements.
Turmeric. This is the most amazing and powerful anti-inflammatory. All natural and so potent. I have done other blogs about it. Search for them on this page.
Natural Greek Yogurt. With its billions of live cultures it is great for gut health! Will help stop any yeast infections caused by antibiotics if you are taking them.
Your Omega Fatty Acids. I take Udo’s Choice DHA 3-6-9 Blend which is full of Omegas and polyunsaturated fatty acids. You should really take this all the time, but really more so when you are unwell!
OnGuard Essential Oil Blend. This is AMAZING. Its the Protective Blend and will help eliminate those nasties! Contains Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils.
Breathe (Easy Air) Essential Oil Blend. The Respiratory Helper! Contains Laurel Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, Peppermint Plant, Melaleuca Leaf, Lemon Peel, Ravensara Leaf, Cardamom Seed essential oils. Will help clear the most stubborn congestion!
REST! And by rest I mean SLEEP! Its hard when you have to work, or look after kids but rest when you can. Your body needs to recover!!!
So, here’s to good health! Hope you guys are well and don’t need this advice!!!
Much Love xx
